Rick Suchow: Music

Delicate Donna

(demo for Was Not Was)
words & music: Rick Suchow

Story: Another one sent to Don Was, this time for his band
Hindsight: Too similar to another Was Not Was song
Aftermath: Perhaps someone will record this one day

Delicate Donna they say
Someone took her poor heart away
Left her lonely, sad and confused
Delicate Donna ain't gonna fall in love too soon

I met her one night
It all seemed so right
I looked into her eyes of blue
I knew nobody else for me would ever do

But I heard all 'bout Donna
So I made no move on her
Just one time I'm takin' it slow
I'm gonna make her mine and I'm never lettin' go

Delicate Donna they say
Someone took her poor heart away
Left her lonely, sad and confused
Delicate Donna ain't gonna fall in love too soon

We talked for a while
She said I made her smile
I wanted that girl so near
To tell her all the things that I needed her to hear

But I knew I could lose her
If she thought I would use her
And when I took her home that very night
I said I'd really like to stay but it doesn't seem right

Now I sit here all alone
No ringin' from the telephone
Cause Donna wrote a letter to me
We could have been so fine boy if you only wanted me

Delicate Donna they say
Someone new stole her heart away
Now I'm lonely sad and confused
Delicate Donna went and broke my heart in two
