Rick Suchow: Music
One Woman Man
(demo for Bonnie Raitt)
words & music: Rick Suchow
Story: Sent to Bonnie's producer Don Was
Hindsight: Lyrics way uncool for Bonnie, more like a Tammy Wynette tune
Aftermath: Bonnie later comments in magazine interview how sick she got of hearing slide guitar on every demo sent to her, to the point that while listening to new songs in her car would rip any cassette out of car stereo as soon as she heard a slide and toss it on backseat. Since slide enters my tune at 14 seconds, don't know if she ever actually heard the whole thing.
He's no Casanova
True as his pretty blue eyes
He don't go out to put one over
And wait for me to sympathize
No lipstick on his collar
No ringing phones in the night
Ain't no time to scream and holler
My baby's busy treatin' me right
He's a one woman man
The kind I understand
He's a one woman man
Lovin' me the best he can
He ain't runnin' 'round playin' his hand
He's a one woman man
I don't need no doctor
Don't need nobody at all
'Cause when it's time for somethin' proper
My baby's love is always on call
He don't dance in the shadows
He don't go sneakin' 'round the bend
His heart beats the straight and narrow
And I'm gonna love him right 'till the end
He's a one woman man
The kind I understand
He's a one woman man
Lovin' me the best he can
He ain't runnin' 'round playin' his hand
He's a one woman man
